  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ½ cup strawberry or raspberry jam Use thick jam to avoid leaking
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar Dust before serving

Baking Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide dough, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Roll out dough to ⅛-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  • Cut heart shapes, creating cut-outs in half of them.
  • Place cookies on lined baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool completely on a rack.
  • Spread jam on solid cookies.
  • Top with cut-out cookies and press gently.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve.

Notes

Chill the dough well to maintain cookie shape. Dust powdered sugar just before serving for best presentation.
