Ingredients
  

Ribs

  • 2 racks baby back ribs 6 lb each

Oil

  • 2 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil

Dr Pepper & Liquid Smoke

  • 1 cup Dr Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke

Barbecue Sauce

  • 3 cups Dr Pepper barbecue sauce or your favorite flavor

Dry Rub

  • 4 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoon coarse sea salt
  • 2 teaspoon ground chipotle pepper
  • 2 teaspoon smoked or Spanish paprika
  • 2 teaspoon dark chili powder
  • 2 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 2 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Pat dry ribs. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs.
  • Drizzle ribs with olive oil.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together dry rub ingredients and rub the ribs on all sides with the rub.
  • Spray slow cooker with cooking spray. Arrange ribs in the slow cooker.
  • In a bowl, whisk Dr Pepper and liquid smoke together and drizzle over the ribs. Lock the lid.
  • Cook on low for 7-8 hours, until fork tender. Remove ribs to cool.

Broiling or Grilling

  • To Broil: Preheat the broiler. Spritz a baking sheet with cooking spray. Brush ribs with BBQ sauce and broil for 4-5 minutes per side.
  • To Grill: Preheat grill to medium. Oil grates. Brush one side with BBQ sauce and grill for 4-6 minutes. Repeat on the opposite side.
  • Rest ribs for 5-10 minutes before serving with extra sauce.

Notes

You can use your favorite BBQ sauce and make dry rub substitutions for convenience. Ensure to cool ribs before charring to maintain tenderness.
