Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk warmed to about 110 degrees F
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated white sugar to bloom the yeast
  • 4 ¾ cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon granulated white sugar
  • 2 eggs whisked
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter very softened

Chai Caramel Sauce

  • cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup unsalted butter very softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • teaspoon ground cloves
  • cup honey
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Chai Filling

  • ½ cup unsalted butter very softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup heavy cream for pouring in between the rolls

Chai Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 6 tablespoon unsalted butter very softened
  • 6 oz cream cheese softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • teaspoon ground allspice
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom

Instructions
 

Dough

  • Bloom the yeast by mixing active dry yeast, sugar, and warm milk. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  • Mix flour, chai spices, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  • Add whisked eggs, vanilla, and softened butter to dry ingredients and mix.
  • Add yeast mixture and blend, then knead for 7-10 minutes until dough forms.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1 ½ hours until doubled in size.

Chai Caramel Sauce

  • Heat heavy cream in a saucepan, add teabags, steep for 10 minutes, then cool.
  • Mix butter, brown sugar, chai spices, honey, vanilla, and salt, then mix in chai-heavy cream.
  • Grease a casserole dish and spread the caramel sauce mixture evenly.

Chai Filling

  • Mix softened butter, brown sugar, chai spices, and salt in a bowl.

Assembling & Baking

  • Roll out dough into an 18 x 12 inch rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
  • Spread chai filling over dough evenly.
  • Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 1 ½ inch rolls.
  • Place rolls in casserole dish with caramel sauce and pour cream between rolls. Cover and proof for about an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F 15 minutes before baking.
  • Bake rolls for 29-32 minutes until golden brown.

Chai Cream Cheese Frosting

  • Mix softened butter and cream cheese until fluffy.
  • Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and chai spices, mix until fluffy.
  • Cover warm rolls with frosting and serve.
